The Hamilton Tiger-Cats lost their 2010 home opener in a close game against the Calgary Stampeders but there were some bright spots, such as the first quarter 98 yard punt return for a touchdown by Marcus Thigpen, hurdling over Stampeders punter Burke Dales in the photo above.
Considering the two previous home losses, it was fair to wonder whether spectators attending the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Halloween game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders would be in for a trick or a treat.
Mother Nature was leaning more towards tricks with 60 km/h wind gusts that bent the poles holding the netting behind the east goalposts and had the south grandstand light standards swaying.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were back in town looking to avenge their July 18th ‘Spygate’ loss. And avenge they did, spoiling Thanksgiving for the Tiger-Cats.
Everyone knew this matchup against the Montreal Alouettes would be a difficult one for the Cats, but there was still hope for a win. Unfortunately it didn’t work out for the Cats this time.
The night of AB3
Can’t say the Cats play was that impressive, but at least they were able to make enough plays to overcome what was looking to be a first half disaster in the making, and take advantage of key Calgary penalties in the second half to pull off another come from behind win at home. Arland Bruce III had two key touchdowns, the winner on a pass from Adam Tafralis when I think most people at the game were expecting the Cats to go for another short yardage quarterback keeper - the play Tafralis seems to be destined to repeat this year as the third string quarterback. Nice though to see him pull off a long pass to Bruce.
