Lightroom: EXIF does not appear in Lightroom JPEG exports

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Here’s one that perplexed me a bit… I was wondering why some Adobe Lightroom (version 3.2) JPEG exports would show proper EXIF info and others would not.

Long story short, it appears to be a bug in the export module. If you ask Lightroom to “Limit File Size to” a specific size JPEG, it won’t include camera related EXIF info, but it will export IPTC (caption/keyword) info.

The solution, obviously: uncheck the limit file size box (the box is checked in the screen grab below). You’ll have to do some tests at various JPEG quality settings to find the right percentage for the file size you desire.

TechTalk is a chance for me to share some of the photography experience I’ve gathered over the past 20-something years in the industry.

While artistic expression is very important to me, I’m also extremely interested in technical aspects of photography and love to ‘talk shop’ with anyone sharing similar interests.

If you have any questions about equipment or technique, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
